Finding the strength and courage to leave a toxic situation, and building a platform that provides the resources for others to do the same is remarkable. Rhonda A. Thompson, Founder of Rose of Sharon Transition Living for Women Inc. embodies that commendable strength. After removing herself from an abusive relationship, Rhonda set out on a journey to help women and children do the same. She founded Rose of Sharon Transitional Living for Women Inc. in February 2012 (ROS). ROS is a non-profit organization primarily created to provide a secure shelter for battered women and their children. ROS offers crisis intervention which includes providing food, advocacy, counseling for victim/child, support groups and more.
This year, ROS plans to open their first emergency shelter in the greater Atlanta Metro area. In addition to providing a safe haven, clients will benefit from workshops on financial planning, pre-employment training, life skills, drug & alcohol prevention and parenting skills, all geared towards helping them become self-sufficient survivors.
The outstanding work of Rhonda Thompson and ROS is just getting started. Rhonda’s goal is to “make domestic violence famous”; making it a topic we discuss and support all year round!
