Artist Spotlight: Mykko Montana

Mykko Montana is a talented lyricist who released one of the biggest street and club bangers to date “Do IT” that still has the clubs jumping and the internet in a craze.

This Southside Atlanta native has put in work for years perfecting his craft and has released several Mixtapes gaining him major recognition on the hip-hop scene.  Since childhood Mykko was known as “creative” and had a passion for writing. When he was younger he penned a poem dedicated to his late beloved grandmother as a tribute to her life; this poem was so phenomenal it landed in the local paper. This recognition sparked a flame and from there Mykko developed a passion for writing lyrics and performing.

Mykko’s unique style and sound captivates many. He delivers playful vocals and celebratory anthems that deify what’s the norm "I don't do what 'they' do; I keep God first and make fun music. I don't have to stand out, I let my actions do that and I stay focused on being me."   His musical influences include old-school R&B throwbacks Otis Redding, Al Green and Marvin Gaye as well as groups Boyz II Men and 112.

Although Mykko has several mixtapes to his credit he is still considered a new artist. While this could pose as a challenge to some, it's a challenge Mykko is ready to meet head-on. Mykko wants to remain true to who he is as an artist by not filling his upcoming debut album with collaborative efforts. "I want people to get to know me and hear me first before other folks just start cosigning me. I want to be able to stand alone." He also plans on using a majority of underground producers on his project, with the exception of a few notable names like Sonny Digital, DJ Spinz and B. Wheezy.

Mykko is the next artist out of the "A" and he plans to bring a refreshing wave of style to the Hip-Hop mix. The self-professed "cool, laid-back, comedian," is exactly what the game has been missing. Mykko Montana is currently working on his project/mixtape ApplyingPressure2 while doing that he is releasing records to keep us prepared for what is next to come. Keep up with Mykko Montana on Instagram @mykkomontana & Twitter Mykkomontana
